In the Balance of Us explores the tension between what we truly want and what we ultimately choose to do.
Inspired by temple architecture, the work imagines the self as a layered inner structure shaped by memory, duty, fear, empathy, habit and social expectation. Human figures move through this architecture, suggesting the different roles and impulses we inhabit as we negotiate between personal desire and the needs of others.
At its centre lies a quieter, aware self - the part that continues to recognise what it feels even when outward choices move elsewhere.
The work reflects on how much of ourselves we yield in order to live with responsibility, care and compromise, and whether we can remain connected to our own centre while doing so.
